Bravo!!!! 👏👏 Such inspiring piece, I felt like getting up from my chair and start doing stuff! You are right, the industry is in this state because we are playing small and that doesn't help people and planet, time to break out of the box!

Thank you so much Nora! So glad it resonated. That was exactly my intention when I wrote it - to get people out of their complacency and honour the path and adventure that is waiting for them <3

Hey Darcy, thank you for your heartfelt message! I'm touched that my writing resonated with you so deeply. I have contemplated on what you said for a while, yes you may not be an architect, but my content is intended for a broader audience so I am thrilled to know it reached you!

So courageous of you to consider a different path a little later on in life. We never start from scratch anyway as our knowledge is cumulative. Your writing skills will benefit you in your following endeavours. Love that you feel the pull towards architecture - however, if you want my real opinion, I think full-blown architecture studies would set you up for major disappointment. 5+ years of full-time study, followed by years long registration requirements. I am curious: what about the field is it exactly that you like? what aspect about creative spaces? There might be other paths worth exploring that could align with your creative aspirations, like doing a 'passive house certification', interior design or even building design at TAFE with a focus on smaller projects. I'd probably also recommend visiting workshops in your area relating to architecture and design and talk to people.

Thanks for being here.

Same, I would also draw house plans as a child! I think that might be a really powerful indication for you to actively explore that direction. As we grow older we tend to forget what lit us up when we were young, so rekindling that in some shape or form is about reconnecting to that inner child again... maybe it's not necessarily a full-blown architecture degree or big public buildings, but starting small... would your inner child like to be doing something related to design and building?

Plus, your observation about profit-maximizing cookie-cutter houses may point to a deeper vision of how you'd like the built environment to be.

'It's all about maximizing profit' is a belief that many of us have picked up. With the right, aligned clients and tradespeople who share similar values, profit may still be important but not to an extent that it overshadows everything else. Purpose and money can co-exist.

Thoughtfully designed spaces, with consideration for context and people, might take more time and more initial investment, but in the long term they last longer and create more lasting value... they are built for durability and not necessarily quick turnover and disposability. More and more people are awakening to this understanding.
